THE LIFE AND TEACHINGS OF GAMPOPA by Khenchen Thrangu Rinpoche
To read spiritual biographies of the Kagyu lineage masters is a great inspiration to enter the path and also provides encouragement and enthusiasm to continue when circumstances become difficult. The spiritual biography of Gampopa, covered in the first half of this book, is a very good example of avoiding the extremes in practice and of showing how we should correctly practice.
Gampopa was the main disciple of Milarepa and one of the founders and shining jewels of the Kagyu lineage of Tibetan Buddhism from which originate the four greater and eight lesser schools.

RECHUNGPA by Thrangu Rinpoche
Milarepa, Tibet's greatest saint, had two major disciples: Gampopa, who established the monastic foundation of the Kagyu lineage and Rechungpa, who traveled to India and brought back profound teachings which were absorbed into several kagyu lineages.
Rechungpa's biography stands out because of the orthodox unfolding of his realization. Rechungpa's pride and arrogance caused him to go against Milarepa's advice three times, putting his practice at risk. Even with this obstacle, Rechungpa's undying devotion to Milarepa served as the cause for enlightenment as evidenced by Rechungpa's achievement of rainbow body at his death.

This is the first English translation of the Asokavadana text, the Sanskrit version of the legend of King Asoka, first written in the second century A.D. Emperor of India during the third century B.C. and one of the most important rulers in the history of Buddhism, Asoka has hitherto been studied in the West primarily from his edicts and rock inscriptions in many parts of the Indian subcontinent. SKY DANCER: The Secret Life and Songs of the Lady Yeshe Tsogyel by Keith Dowman, fore. by Trinley Norbu Rinpoche, illustrations by Eva van Dam.
Yeshe Tsogyel, consort of Guru Padmasambhava, is one of the most famous of the enlightened women of Tibet. Few works deal with the spiritual practices and evolution of female aspirants, and for this reason Sky Dancer is virtually unique in the biographical literature of Tibet. Women are shown in an eminent position, and a path of practice is presented for initiates to emulate. Tsogyel's experiences and her detailed instructions to her disciples are inspirational for today's practitioners.

LADY OF THE LOTUS-BORN: The Life and Enlightenment of Yeshe Tsogyal by Gyalwa Changchub and Namkhai Nyingpo, translated by The Padmakara Translation Group
THE FIRST TIBETAN ever to attain complete enlightenment was in all probability the woman Yeshe Tsogyal, closest disciple of Padmasambhava, the master who introduced the Buddhist teachings to Tibet in the eighth century. This book is not only a biography but an inspiring example of how Buddha's teaching may be practiced.
Lady of the Lotus-Born is also a colorful and intriguing picture of Tibet at the beginning of the Buddhist era-a time of upheaval, when royal patronage was striving to foster the new teachings in the face of powerful opposition.
